Here’s a quick question. Open up your fridge and let me know how much extra space do you have in your fridge? The chances are there is no room. But that’s okay.

A lot of people don’t know what should be in the fridge and what outside. Result? We put almost everything and end up with zero space for actual stuff to be in the fridge.

So check out the list below that doesn’t need to be refrigerated.

1: Coffee

Coffee beans don’t need to be in the fridge. They simply require an airtight jar, cool and dry place. That’s it. A fridge can have a great deal of humidity while the coffee tastes great when it is stored at room temperature.

2: Fruits

Stone fruits such as Mango, Apricot, Peaches, and other stone fruits keep their nutrients better if kept out of the cold fridge.

All these fruits will remain fresh and tasty at the counter. Once ripe you can keep them in the fridge for a few days but be sure the crisper is very clean. Any mold can turn stone fruits into a mess.

3: Tomatoes

Who doesn’t keep tomatoes in the fridge? In fact, almost every one of us tends to keep tomatoes in the fridge.

There are two reasons why we shouldn’t keep tomatoes in the fridge. Firstly, cold air stops the ripening of tomatoes while ripe tomatoes are good for health.

Secondly, ripe tomatoes have sugar content controlled as compared to cold tomatoes.

4: Honey

Honey never get spoiled whether you keep it in the fridge or not, however, it will get crystallized if kept in the fridge. Honey is best kept in a cool and dry place such as a cupboard or pantry shelf.

5: Garlic

This is a big no-no. Putting garlic in the fridge can be a bad idea. Firstly, it can leave garlic odor in other food items. Secondly, garlic is a cold-weather crop and will sprout if kept in the fridge.

Cold temperature can also turn it to a rubbery mush.

6: Potatoes

Potatoes love to be stored in dark and dry place. Potatoes can easily be stored in cabinets or in the pantry.

If you’d store potatoes in the fridge, the starch turns the sugar and you’ll end up with gritty and sweet potatoes. Also, be sure to store them unwashed because moisture causes decay.
