Trawling the superstore aisle looking for a discounted price is now a waste of time. Online grocery shopping has turned out to be a phenomenal way to save money.

No matter you are feeding yourself or supporting your whole family, groceries take a big chunk out of your salary.

This blog will help you cut the grocery bill without giving up on a food you adore.

So all you need to do is to bring little change in shopping behavior and follow the below-mentioned tips to save thousands of rupees annually.

Shop once a week

The key to reducing grocery expenditure is to reduce the number of visits to a supermarket. The less you go for shopping the more you save.

We fool ourselves by never imagining the little money we spend on impulse buying on every visit.

Even spending an average of Rs.1000/- on impulse buying per visit may not sound much but that’s Rs.12000/- per year.

Shopping off-the-list may take a big slice out of your wallet, but cutting your weekly or monthly visits will greatly save you some bucks.

Follow these 2 steps to save money

1:  Plan and list down all the weekly grocery items that you need.

2: Select only one online convenient delivery service in your area ( I’ll tell the reason in later part of this blog).

Plan meals around ads/promotions

A lot of people first make the weekly meal plan and then look for discounts and promotions. Instead, plan your weekly meals around promotional items. This way you can surprisingly reduce the grocery bill.

It is quite easy for someone who is prone to online grocery shopping because it enables you to plan ahead of time.

The promotional emails can easily let you know the ongoing discounts and deals so you can plan your next week meals.

Look for substitute

I want you to rethink your expenditures especially those related to your hard earned money. The idea of switching to substitute will greatly help you cut the weekly and monthly grocery bill.

Review your last grocery receipt and highlight the most expensive purchases from the list. And replace it with the inexpensive substitute for your next grocery purchase.

For instance, the current consumer price of  Olper's and  Milkpak (1Ltr) is Rs.135/- in the market, whereas, their substitute Nurpur and Haleeb cost around Rs.110/-.

The Rs. 25/- difference may seem insignificant, but if you do a little math it’s A LOT.

Let’s compare the approximate prices and savings.

An average 8 liters of monthly consumption of milk @ Rs. 135/- cost around Rs.1080 per month and that’s Rs.12,960 per year.

An average 8 liters of monthly consumption of milk @ Rs. 110/- cost around Rs.880 per month and that’s Rs.10,560 per year.

You can save at least Rs.2400 annually by just switching to a substitute brand.

The comparison is of one grocery item. Imagine how much you will save by consuming a substitute brands if you follow this tip for other grocery items.

Avail free delivery

When you are shopping for groceries online you automatically save the fuel cost and impulse buying cost. But the advantages of online grocery buying can exceed further if you avail the delivery.

There are online grocery stores which offer free delivery on shopping of Rs.2000-3000 or more that otherwise usually cost Rs.150-300 per delivery.

If you are a weekly grocery shopper then paying for grocery delivery service can cost Rs.600-800 per month. And THAT”S A LOT.

So always make a list of groceries and order all in once to avail a free grocery delivery at your doorstep.

Be loyal

Pick one grocery store and stay loyal to it. Why?

Because once you do it, then sign in to their loyalty program and collect points as you order groceries.

This gives you an opportunity to save big by redeeming those points. But before you choose your online grocer, make sure you use to read their terms & conditions and exchange policy.

The additional advantage is that the loyal customers get the first update about the store deals and discounts. So you can always cash-in the ongoing discount promotions.
