Punjab Food Authority has banned the sale of 103 brands of cooking oil and ghee in Pakistan, stating these brands unhealthy for consumption. Out of 103 cooking oil and ghee, 47 were failed to meet safety parameters and 56 failed to meet basic quality standards.
Punjab Food Authority has disposed off 68,120 Kg of oil and ghee from the local market and authorities have directed to ban the production and distribution until these brands comply to health standards.

The PFA team collected 300+ samples from the market and the results were taken on the basis of blind sampling before company representatives.
However, 211 brands met the health and safety standards which were sampled and tested.

Geo Banaspati, Kisan Banaspati Ghee, Qila Khyber Banaspati, Multan Banaspati, Shafi Vegetable Ghee, Darra Khyber Banaspati Ghee, Misaal Banaspati, Seasons Banaspati, Punjab Banaspati, Care Banaspati Ghee, Chandi Sona Banaspati, Asia Banaspati, Tahafuz Banaspati, Chand Banaspati (VTF), Mumta Banaspati (VTF), Jashan Banaspati, Minha Banaspati etc
Mr Usman said that the authority would not compromise on the quality of food and standards and the production of failed brands would remain suspended till further orders.

He said that they would again collect samples of different brands for laboratory test.
